Our Story

Kimberlee and David met at Winter Park Resort. She was the Director of Marketing. He was the Director of Revenue Management.

Before you roll your eyes and sigh, “Ah, the typical office romance,” rest assured, it wasn’t typical, and it was far short of a cliche romance.

In fact, Kimberlee didn’t like David all that much when she first met him. He was a stuffy numbers guy. No personality, only cared about business type things, and didn’t have any feelings.

In other words. Boring…

All those who know Kimberlee know she is anything but boring. She is a creative, and has LOTS of feelings.

Clearly, they were not a match made in heaven, or so it might seem.

Even so, there was something there, and David knew it. She was smart, beautiful, and had a way of bringing the best out in people in a way that was unique and special. She had a “way” about her that he had never experienced before with anyone.

Knowing she was different, he was patient, and decided he would make it his mission to show her that he was FUN. Even though she may have already made up her mind that he wasn’t.

Over time, Kimberlee warmed up to him and even though she was skeptical of the boring numbers types, she eventually accepted an invite to go skiing in Steamboat.

Well, she didn’t initially accept the invite. She actually had originally turned him down. A few days later she changed her mind and said, “If you’re still going tomorrow, can I tag along?” And of course, David said, “Yes.”

The next day, David made breakfast burritos and offered to pick Kimberlee up for their day in Steamboat.

Still somewhat unsure about David, she declined the offer for a pick up. They would meet, and drive together from their rendezvous. And no burrito.

Again, she later changed her mind. She decided the burrito would be ok.

The next day, the two met and drove to Steamboat. They ate burritos in the car, chatted about anything and everything, and skied a fantastic powder day. At lunch, they stopped and ordered lunch and a beer. Which, as normal as that might seem, was a big deal to Kimberlee, because she thought that David was too hard core to ever stop for lunch, let alone sit down and have a beer.

This was her first consideration that David, may in fact, be FUN.

Following that day, the fun never stopped.

They played in the snow skiing. They played in the dirt mountain biking. They rode the California coast on road bikes. And they traveled the country and abroad.

They navigated a pandemic together, and even got up for 100 days in a row to photograph the sunrise. And they supported each other through Kimberlee’s father’s death.

It was seven years of great fun with no shortage of challenges thrown in to make sure they were able to navigate that together too.

On May 20th, 2023, David proposed to Kimberlee on a mountain bike ride in Lake Pueblo State Park in Pueblo, CO, and she said “Yes.”

The two are under no illusions that marriage is only fun. They know it’s not just about having fun, but is also about love, respect, support, and building a life they can be proud of living together. They live each day with this goal in mind for each other, and measure each other’s happiness by the happiness of the other.

But as for the question of fun.

Kimberlee has finally conceded that David is FUN, and David most definitely thinks Kimberlee is too.
